Across the Stars- Sneak Peek 11/10/13

Below is a snippet from my latest WIP called Across the Stars. It's a SFR or Sci-Fi Romance.

Here's the story scoop: Laina is one of the last surviving humans after earth was destroyed when the humans tried to kill the cyborgs they'd created when the cyborgs rebelled and escaped. Now the Cyborgs, with permission of the Galactic High Council have free rein to pursue the last remnants of the human race and do with them as they see fit. Rorik, a cyborg lieutenant stumbles upon Laina hiding in a ship and he captures her, thinking to get information about the whereabouts of other humans. But when the cyborg doctor on Rorik's ship runs tests on Laina, a genetic anomaly in her hand raises questions and he suddenly wonders if Laina might hold the key to the survival of the cyborg race. Can he learn to trust and love his sworn enemy if it means he might save his people?

Last week we left off with Rorik having knocked Laina out with his phaser and he's brought her on board the cyborg ship the Orion and taken her to the sick bay. The ship's doctor, Valerius has just discovered the genetic anomaly in Laina's hand and wants to study it further, Rorik, however, has other plans for their human prisoner.

“Ah, my apologies, Rorik, I’m done with the initial exam; you may take her now. She will have to be brought back so I may look at her hand,” Valerius reminded.

Rorik merely growled something that sounded suspiciously like a curse word and stalked over to the metal exam table and grabbed her arm. She gasped as he tugged her off the bed and onto her feet, the blanket started to fall from her body and she fought to catch it. Rorik reacted instantly, and spun her around to face the medical bed, bending her over it and pinning her arms at her lower back. The blanket slid to the floor at her feet. Her breath quickened, her lungs seizing painfully as she fought to remain calm and not move an inch. He could kill her, right here and now if she made another move.

  1. Oh my. Things sound a little intense here. She's obviously frightened. I'm intrigued. Nice eight.

  2. Okay, so I'm not digging Rorik much right now. The word jerk comes to mind. This week's eight has pulled out strong emotion in me, I want to protect her. So, nice job!

  3. These two have a lonnggg journey to reach the HEA, that's clear. I'm glad Laina is so sensible at this point. But a strong excerpt, really pulls me into the story further.

  5. He's a bully but he doesn't know any better. I'm hoping he'll change, scary snippet!

  6. He has the unarmed version of an itchy trigger finger for sure, reacting to her every movement like she's a deadly threat. If he keeps this up, he's going to kill her before the doctor gets any information about that anomaly.

  7. Gut reaction I take it. He is after all a soldier. Hope she eventually brings out a softer side, well not soft, more like less of an oaf. :) Way to keep your characters in character, Lauren. Well done!
